The Oregon Trail Webquest

The Oregon Trail was a route traveled by Americans to reach the states of Washington, Oregon, California, Utah, and Nevada. The route was important because it was the only way settlers could get across the Rockies Mountains with wagons and gear. Without this route these territories might never have been settled and became a part of the USA. On the journey 1 in 10 settlers died and many walked the 2000 mile journey barefoot. Along the way the settlers faced enemies, it was not the Native American tribes who were helpful and friendly. These enemies were cholera, poor sanitation, and accidental gunshot wounds.
